The Barnes Terrace Garden;Somesville

Initially I was aiming for a more structured representation of this garden bed. I spend many days tending these beautiful plants. And as I was blocking in the grasses my brain really wanted to use pinkish tones. The more I scumbled and scratched my way through the first layer the more that I realized this is what I truly love about painting, the unfolding and often unpredictable nature of creating.

I find myself returning to the background more, adding those purples and yellows, eventually I will work back into the nepeta and salvias——the clapboards, meh, they’re just there for now as an anchoring point, and I’ll go back and add some textures when the paint drys a bit more…
